Why don't these gyms offer childcare / daycare?

Childcare isn't quite as popular of an amenity as it was in years past. We've seen it steadily removed over the years from many gyms. That doesn't it isn't in demand, but here's what we've gathered talking to gym owners: 
  • Childcare can get expensive for gym operators. There are costs to consider for staff, training, toys and equipment. Don't forget about insurance to cover in case of an accident. These all add up and make daycare services a tougher amenity to implement.
  • There are less parents who need the amenity—relatively speaking. With the growing trend of people having less children, gyms started to remove childcare as demand has fallen.
  • Childcare/daycare requires a safe, dedicated area away from the gym floor. We've seen gyms no longer add this service and instead use the space for various, lower impact amenities such as stretch rooms, yoga spaces, group fitness and more.

  • Workout with no worries: Your little one(s) are literally around the corner. With dedicated spaces for them to run, jump and play, it's convenient to have helpful hands close by to your weights, cardio, basketball and more.
  • Kids get a break, too: Many gyms we've seen have childcare areas full of exciting and adventurous spaces. We love the playhouses, activities, toys and more. Your kid ever get cooped up at home, itching to play? Well, heading to the gym for them is also an escape.
  • Win-Win Situation: I recall zombie mode as a parent with a newborn. That continued as the years went on, and I longed for a recharging workout. A gym with childcare offers that escape where both you and your little one get some time for fun.
